Sending Videos on WeChat Without Compression: 3 Methods Compared
WeChat re-encodes videos sent as chat messages: resolution and bitrate are decided by the app, not by you. To keep original quality, send as a file; to keep one-tap playback, compress to ~25 MB first — all doable locally in your browser.
The three sending methods
- Video message: forced re-encode, roughly 1–2 Mbps, quality is out of your control.
- File transfer: original file passes through untouched, up to 1 GB, but the receiver gets a file card instead of inline playback.
- Moments: strict re-encode plus a duration cap; treat it as lossy by default.
A 25 MB target that still looks good
Bitrate budget ≈ (25 MB × 8192) ÷ duration in seconds. A 60-second clip gets roughly 3.4 Mbps total — enough for 1080p H.264 if you trim first. Shortening the clip preserves perceived quality better than lowering the bitrate on a long video.
