Bilibili Upload Parameters: Bitrate Ranges and Avoiding Double Compression

Bilibili transcodes every upload with its own encoder. A source whose bitrate is far above the target makes the second encode worse, not better. Keeping your export inside the recommended range is the single most effective quality fix.

Recommended export parameters

  • Codec: H.264 (AVC) High profile, MP4 container.
  • 1080p: 3000–8000 kbps; 720p: 1500–3000 kbps (varies by category and account level).
  • Audio: AAC 128–192 kbps.
  • Match frame rate to your source (25/30 fps) — do not mix rates across clips.

Why high-bitrate sources look worse after upload

Platform transcoding targets a fixed bitrate. When the source is 40 Mbps and the target is 6 Mbps, the platform encoder must discard enormous amounts of detail in one pass. A source already near 6–8 Mbps loses far less in the second encode.
