Editing Video Metadata: Title, Artist, and More
Every media file carries an invisible spec sheet: title, artist, comment, encoder info. They never touch picture or sound, but they decide how media libraries sort files and what players display.
What the four fields are for
The tool writes four standard fields: title (the name players display), artist (who made it), album (grouping for series material), and comment (free text). When archiving footage, put project name, shoot date, and purpose into the comment — months later you will not have to guess content from filenames.
These edits touch container tags, not the video itself: renaming the title moves no frames. Also note that most platforms rebuild metadata from your publish settings on upload — in-file tags mainly matter for local management and direct sharing.
Full strip and the privacy boundary
The tool has a "strip all metadata" switch: when on, it removes title, artist, copyright, encoder info and every other tag, and the fields below stop applying — clear first or write, not both.
This is different from privacy-oriented metadata removal: privacy is about device and location traces lingering in the file (see the metadata privacy guide). This tool handles "write the right info" and "clear everything"; use both guides together before publishing.
