Posting Video on LinkedIn: Format and Hook

LinkedIn feeds are professional contexts: fast scrolling, muted playback, completion-driven distribution. Beyond specs, leading with a conclusion or pain point in the first 10 seconds is the skill that matters.

Formats and limits

Personal accounts allow 15 minutes and 5GB per video. Vertical 1080×1920 takes the most screen real estate in mobile feeds — right for opinion and experience content; horizontal 1920×1080 suits tutorials and screen recordings. Both are supported; choose by content shape, not by whatever the camera recorded.

Industry insight, hiring perspective and career-experience content completes best here — users come for professional information, and substance density drives engagement. Pure entertainment imports poorly; do not copy short-video pacing.

Encoding and covers

H.264 + AAC, 1080p 30fps, 8–12 Mbps source. Covers are customizable, and in a professional context a cover with a one-line conclusion out-clicks a raw screenshot. Re-encoding exists but is gentler than Instagram — a generous source bitrate is enough.

Screen-recording tutorials: 1080p is the floor and text regions need generous size — the feed preview is much smaller than fullscreen, and small type is noise at preview scale.

The first 10 seconds and silence

Feeds autoplay muted; burned-in captions are the information floor. Leading with a conclusion or pain point in the first 10 seconds ("this cut my editing time in half") retains an order of magnitude better than a greeting — professional attention is counted in seconds.

End with a clear next step: comment, DM for resources, visit the profile. Engagement is weighted heavily here, and threads with real replies in the first hour distribute visibly better.
